Our February winner of the Bill Stasek Chevrolet Great Charity Contest is Famous Fido Rescue and Adoption They received the most votes out of all the nominated charities in February. If you’re unfamiliar with the contest it works like this:
- People nominate their favorite charity on our Facebook page at the beginning of each month
- Family and friends vote on the nominated charities the last half of the month
- The charity with the most votes by the end of the month wins the $500.00 donation
We’ve always felt a responsibility to our community, to give back whenever we can and this monthly contest gives us a chance to recognize other organizations that do the same. We had a chance to talk with Danielle and Lauren from St. Sophia’s who told us more about their non-profit rescue.
We had the chance to talk with Martha Hack when she stopped by to pick up the donation, she also brought along Topo Gig a cute little Chihuahua.
Tell us about Famous Fido
Famous Fido is a small No Kill Rescue working to reach and teach the public not to purchase from Puppy Mills or Back Yard Breeders, where they are bought and sold in deplorable conditions. But, rather to adopt the dogs and cats that have been abandoned in shelters now.
Is it just dogs you shelter?
No we also do have some cats as well
When you rescue the animals you give them medical attention?
Absolutely, all are vaccinated, heart-worm tested, micro-chipped and spayed or neutered before they go to their forever homes. We educate people to think of themselves as guardians of their pets, not owners. We encourage understanding that a shelter is not the answer to an unwanted animal. No animal should have to live in a shelter. Re-homing is the best and only answer.
Where are you located?
We’ve been located on the North side of Chicago for the last 20 years and now we’re excited to be moving into a larger new location on the Northwest side.
